| International Competition for Architectural Design of the National Tennis Centre and the National Hockey Stadium Launched |

The international competition for the architectural design of the National Tennis Centre and the National Hockey Stadium was officially launched on February 18, 2004. The competition is open to design companies, firms and institutes worldwide. Six to eight individual or consortium designers will be invited to participate in the competition after initial screening. The National Tennis Centre and the National Hockey Stadium are to be located in the southern area of the National Olympic Sports Center in Beijing's Olympic Green. Upon completion, they will be used for tennis and hockey events during the 2008 Olympic Games, after which they will be turned into multifunctional sports and cultural areas specialised in hosting tennis and hockey games. The architectural design competition aims to continue the philosophy expressed in the master plan of the Olympic Green, to fully reflect the concepts of Olympics, to establish the a new image for the metropolis, and to make the National Tennis Centre and the National Hockey Stadium the largest and the most state-of-the-art sports facilities of their kinds in Beijing. Organisation of this event has been entrusted to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning and Chaoyang District Government by the Beijing Municipal Government. Beijing Science Park Auction and Tendering Co., Ltd. will act as the agency for the competition.
